Personality: A will of tempered steel, Shackledstar doesn't believe in backing down from challenges, and goes full throttle after evaluating situations. Since youth, his stubborn streak had gotten him into trouble countless of times and sometimes even helped him resist death. Despite his attitude, he manages to hold an air of command about him, almost always turning arguments to his favor. His years of arguing with his brother, Ebonypelt, expanded his vocabulary and understanding of manipulation.
Something almost alien to Shackledstar is anger. It's a waste of time and energy in this tom's mind, and can be put to better use hunting or patrolling for the clan. Social situations aren't his strong point. He can be friendly, but often times decides to keep a wall up. Distant, you could say, and not really the type to strike up a conversation with a clan mate. If greeted he will answer, but never does he impose on the others unless it's crucial to the clans. He does have a soft spot for young kits and apprentices even when they cause mischief.
History:
Shackled
It had been in the younger days of a ShadowClan medicine cat, Stormwhisker, when he met a sickly thin she-cat on ShadowClan territory. She had been dying from hunger with injuries inflicted by her ex two-legs. Doing the natural thing, the tom found the loner shelter, and nursed her back to health over the course of a moon. They grew close to each other, and the she-cat, Aqua, remained close to the territory, hoping to one day join Stormwhisker's clan when the current leadership was taken over by what Stormwhisker thought to be a friendlier tom.
One day, much to the healer's delight and anxiety, Aqua gave birth to three healthy kits. His kits. The joy was overwhelmed by grief when Stormwhisker's mentor, Daisyheart, found them together one day. She had thought her apprentice's "herb gathering" had been taking too long. At first, she thought it was just a family of loners that Stormwhisker had been helping until she realized how familiar two of the kits looked, resembling the big gray tom almost too perfectly. The older healer tried to tell Aqua to leave with her kits immediately, but the loner refused due to her determination to stay with Stormwhisker.
Daisyheart, not knowing what else to do, and not wanting to loose her apprentice, attacked the she-cat and killed her, telling Stormwhisker that this was his punishment for breaking the Medicine Cat Code. Stricken with cruel grief shared by his newfound hate for the mentor that he had adored, and for the loss of the she-cat, Aqua, Stormwhisker returned to the clan with his kits. His mentor, covered in blood, explained that a rogue had attacked, and that she had had no other choice but to kill her. Daisyheart confessed that she and Stormwhisker found out too late that she had only been protecting her kits, and decided to bring them back to see if the clan would train them. The current leader at the time decided to keep them in thought to use them first over pure blooded warriors. Stormwhisker hated this idea, but could do nothing, but watch as his sin destroyed the kits he created and loved.
Kit
Previously named Shackled by his mother, Shackledkit received a clan name alongside Ebonykit and Hushkit. Despite their strange names, the kits were welcomed into the clan regardless of their origins. No one questioned how similar they looked to Stormwhisker due to the clans strong sense of security with the medicine cat. They never would have thought he would do such as a thing as to have kits, especially with a loner. It would be a secret to his grave.
Nothing much happened in Shackledkit's kithood other than being a smart aleck at times. He and his brothers memory of their mother and father faded away as clan life took over their small minds. Although they would never completely understand why Stormwhisker's scent was so familiar to them, they soon became adjusted to being called the "loner kits." For a moon, they were the talk of the clan, disliked for their loner blood, but not long after they had joined did the old leader die, and the deputy took his rank. After that, the kits became a part of ShadowClan as the warriors saw potential in their developing personalities. Within a few moons, they were no longer thought of as a loners kits, and had been born clan cats. It was time to be apprenticed.
Apprentice
Shackledkit, along with his brother, Hushkit, became a warrior apprentice. Shackledpaw was apprenticed to a she-cat called Eldertail, and Hushpaw became apprenticed to another named Hollowheart. Ebonypaw, heeding a different destiny, was apprenticed to Stormwhisker.
Shackledpaw, wanting to prove to his clan that he was more than a loner spawn, worked hard alongside Eldertail. However, it was evident that Hushpaw had the better skillset. His brother overtook him in every obstacle that was in their way. Shackledpaw, being naturally stubborn, was determined to exceed him and the other apprentices. He and Eldertail learned what he was best suited for, and worked on techniques that worked with the hefty apprentice to ensure his success. After a time, mentor and apprentice were happy with the progress he had made. Although having a rough start, Shackledpaw got equal footing with Hushpaw among the apprentices. Between this time, they fought few predators, but battled many apprentices and warriors, sometimes at the fault of Shackledpaw, at border skirmishes due to drought and prey stealing. Shackledpaw has a few scars from these fights hidden by his long fur.
Meanwhile, Ebonypaw had become distant from Shackledpaw and their brother. They figured it was because of the different mindset a medicine cat must have, but they soon realized it was something else as the black apprentice became bitter and spiteful overtime. It was a mystery leading into their promotion as warriors.
Warrior
Successful at overcoming his delayed traits, Shackledpaw and Hushpaw became full warriors on a chilled day at Sun High. Hushpaw was named Hushstep for his fantastic hunting skills. Shackledpaw was given the name, Shackledaura, though not knowing why. Many of the clan were confused by this odd choice, not knowing what "aura" meant, until Stormwhisker came forward and explained that he requested it of their leader to give one of the siblings the name of their mother. Confused, but delighted, to finally know his mother's name, Shackledaura accepted the name, though it caused much conflict in the clan afterwards. It was a reminder of his roots, and they didn't want the other clans to see that weakness in ShadowClan. Shackledaura didn't let it deter him, and wore the name with pride.
After that day, Ebonypaw became angrier than before, and it showed towards his injured patients. When asked by Shackledaura or Hushstep, he would grow quiet, and glare at them, maybe even sometimes bare his teeth. Occasionally, the medicine cat apprentice would relent, and say that he couldn't tell because it would ruin everything. The toms noticed that Stormwhisker wouldn't say anything to him, but merely take over when he would grow too rough with their sick clan mates. Moons went by before Shackledaura questioned it, he and Hushstep grew a reputation among the clans and their own clan mates as they fought victorious battles with thought out plans and ideas.
Shackledaura gained his first apprentice, Fleetpaw, a young she-cat who was awfully fearful of fighting. Already having a soft spot for kits and apprentices, Shackledaura would have asked her to become a medicine cat if he hadn't feared what his brothers terrible temper would do to her. Instead, he took his time training her, and helping her get past her fears. Moons passed and Fleetpaw became the confident warrior, Fleetfoot. She and her mentor kept their friendly teacher and student relations, often patrolling with Hushstep and her brother, Redclaw. Shackledaura stopped questioning Ebonypelt’s hostility in that time until a fateful evening patrol.
Shackledaura, Hushstep, and their old apprentices heard cats screeching as they were hunting. They rushed to the scene, horrified to find Ebonypelt standing over Stormwhisker, blood weeping from a wound on his neck. Hushstep asked what was going on, noting the scent of fox and prompted Ebonypelt to help the medicine cat. Ebonypelt did nothing, and that’s when Stormwhisker spoke. The truth came out. He explained what had happened all those moons ago, apologizing over and over again that he didn’t do anything. Shackledaura watched as his father took a last shuttering breath before dying. He would remember wondering if the medicine cat would join StarClan. Silence traveled between the five cats before Ebonypelt finally spoke. The secret must die with the three brothers if they want to keep their status. Understanding the message, Fleetfoot and Redclaw fled towards camp. Ebonypelt and Hushstep exchanged a glance, the quiet brothers eyes were glazed with shock but he followed the black medicine cat back into the territory. Shackledaura remained at Stormwhiskers body, too stunned to understand until he heard the screeches, and even then, his paws had felt planted to the ground.
Moons passed after the deaths of the two young warriors, and a medicine cat. The story had been told as if Ebonypelt and Stormwhisker had been gathering herbs, and gone separate ways. The older of the two met a fox on the way, and had gotten overtaken by it. Redclaw and Fleetfoot scented blood and heard his screeches, and tried to save him, but were too inexperienced to ward off the predator. They died bravely, and Shackledaura and his brothers mourned... Or at least, Ebonypelt put on a good show of it. Shackledaura had fallen into a depression during this time, loosing his sharp tongue, and became subdued in temper. Hushpelt and the medicine cat kept a close eye on him since that day, unsure of where his loyalty stood. Most days, the young tom wasn't sure of it himself, and put himself forward to make up for the existence Stormwhisker had brought into the forest. Another apprentice trained, and promoted to a warrior... Hushpelt died the next morning, falling to a fox himself. Shackledaura remembered thinking how ironic it had been, feeling nothing for what he deemed to be a murderer, and wondered if his brother had thrown himself to the predator in guilt.
Deputy
More moons passed, and the deputy retired to the elders den. Shackledaura was granted the position by Stonestar. The warrior thought there would be better choices, but the leader seemed to have his mind set on him. No one was against the warrior being deputy either. He later learned that Ebonypelt had received a sign from StarClan that Shackledaura would be the appropriate option. The gray warrior was suspicious, his pelt prickling any time he was near the black medicine cat. Although Shackledaura performed his duties well, he watched Stonestar's and Ebonypelt's interactions, and it became apparent to him that something was wrong. The once powerful leader that had been kind to he and his brothers had become weak and frail, willing to listen to his medicine cats every word without a question to the sense it had.
Shackledaura pushed aside his numbness, concern for the gentle tom welling up inside his chest. He confronted Ebonypelt in the medicine den one day while the black tom treated his paw injury. He noted how much calmer and patient the medicine cat had become since the death of his mentor. The medicine cat admitted to his brother that he had been drugging their leader, but only to ease pain that was already there, and using it to keep the clan in peace. He admitted as well that he had faked the sign for Shackledaura to become deputy so that when he took place as leader, their secret would die with them, and they would make sure history wouldn't repeat itself. It had been a plan between Hushstep and him, but now that the former brother had passed, Ebonypelt whispered words to Shackledaura, and Shackledaura felt inclined to trust him for the time being, assuming that the medicine cat had been a decent tom all along... Only that he had made horrible mistakes to keep his brothers safe in their positions. Shackledaura went along with Ebonypelt's manipulation, forming his own careful plans.
Seasons went by, and Ebonypelt had taken on an apprentice. ShadowClan remained in a peaceful lull despite their restlessness that threatened to spill at the borders. Despite noting conflict, Shackledaura tried to keep peace with his fellow warriors, but continued following Stonestar's plans even though he knew that they might truly have been Ebonypelt's. It became apparent however, that Ebonypelt was trying to control the leaders every move by making up omens or signs from StarClan. Shackledaura assumed this to be true however, and waited to act as he noticed his brothers words spreading to the other warriors as well. They were to leave loners or rogues alone. Loners and rogues could travel in their clan territory without fault. After all, Shackledaura and he were great in their powerful positions weren't they? Shackledaura had enough as his own brother tried to sway his mind as well.
Leader
Stonestar passed, and Shackledaura traveled to the Moonpool to gain his nine lives. Ebonypelt lead him to it, speaking in riddles and whispers again, his voice sly and sure of what he said. Once they had arrived, Shackledaura had lied down at the edge of his nose barely touching the waters surface before falling asleep to wake up in the territory of StarClan.
Aura - "With this life, I give you courage."
Stormwhisker - "With this life, I give you empathy."
Redclaw - "With this life, I give you justice."
Fleetfoot - "With this life, I give you sympathy."
Hushstep - "With this life, I give you selflessness."
Daisyheart - With this life, I give you forgiveness."
Unknown - "With this life, I give you love."
Unknown - "With this life, I give you determination."
Stonestar - "With this life, I give you wisdom."
Finally achieving nine lives and taking the words left by his ancestors, Shackledaura stepped out from the moon pool, and turned towards Ebonypelt. There, he told the medicine cat that he had plans of his own for his clan, and that the black tom wouldn't be part of it. He would make his own excuse as to why he was doing what he did, but told Ebonypelt to leave the territories and never to return. Shackledaura wouldn't accept a murderer into his clan even if it was his own brother, and refused to have a medicine cat that would dare drug a leader. Ebonypelt left without word that night.
Shackledaura told the clan that Ebonypelt had left of his own accord. There had been a quarrel that couldn't be settled, and it had affected there relationship as leader and medicine cat.
