In the aftermath of the dog attack, things in Shadowclan had been a little hectic. Or rather, that's how Pigeonstep felt. The new deputy had been settling in well, but she still found it weird that it wasn't Duckburr giving her orders to go on patrol, that it wasn't Duckburr telling her to stop lazing about. She shuddered. She could still vividly picture his bloody, beaten body. And whose fault was that? No. She shook her head. Pigeonstep was neither dramatic nor self-absorbed enough to believe she was to blame for his death, but she still thought she could have helped drive the dogs away. In a way, she did help - she brought more warriors (as per instruction from Shackledstar himself) to help Secretsong and Shackledstar get rid of them. But had she sank her own teeth and claws into those cretins pelts? Once more, the answer was no.

So here she was in the middle of the territory, trying to improve her less-than-desirable fighting skills. If (Starclan forbid) such a tragedy were to happen again, she wanted to be ready. After randomly swiping at things and dodging invisible enemies for a while, Pigeonstep decided to practice the jump-and-pin.  It involved leaping backwards and bouncing off a surface (usually a tree) before landing on an opponent. As an apprentice she had been told it was a complicated move, but she was a warrior now - surely she should be able to perform it with little to no problem. With this in mind she backed up towards a conifer then sprang upwards, her paws meeting the tree bark. But when she attempted to push off -

Well, to put it simply she landed awkwardly.

Before she knew it, Pigeonstep had fallen backwards into a pile of leaves, a soft 'oof' slipping from her mouth upon impact despite her back's cushioned fall. She watched one leaf that she had caused to fly up into the air flutter down onto her nose. She sneezed it off. "Mouse-dung!" she hissed under her breath. She rolled over and pushed herself back up, her expression irritated as she smoothed down some of the fur on her chest.
