Careless of the cost; Confusion of the cross | Appleheart |
Appleheart felt ill as she trudged across the snow-laden territory, her paws growing colder by the second and stomach lurching. Hemlockstar's burial was fresh in her mind and it burned like the scorch of a Greenleaf sun. Harsh, oppressive. It made her mouth feel dry. He hadn't always been in her favor, but no cat deserved a death like that. No one. While she hadn't spoken much on their journey, she did glance towards Stormpelt every so often. She always managed to avert her focus back to her marching paws and the open fields ahead. He always seemed sure of himself -- at least when it came to clan matters; she found herself wondering how he was feeling now. Was he ready to be the leader so soon? Hemlockstar hadn't been leader for more than a season and Appleheart had already made her first leader-ceremony journey with him. She shuddered, wondering if she'd have to sit through another after Stormpelt or if his would truly be her last. Appleheart distracted herself; that wasn't her concern at the moment. She gazed out across WindClan's territory as she exited the forest of ThunderClan and managed to at least feel a small amount of enjoyment from the night. She was going to be able to at least see Icefur tonight. It felt pitiful and wrong to be happy on this dark day, to celebrate the fact that she would get to see her passed friend, Icefur, upon the demise of their leader. She thought that maybe Stormpelt felt the same way. That thought helped her feel better, albeit slightly. "Holding up alright?" she inquired to the deputy, her eyes not making contact with his. Her voice had remained level and monotone, conveying none of her emotions. It was just a common courtesy; they weren't far from the Moonpool now and surely Stormpelt was clearly strong enough to finish the journey. Maybe he'd even manage to say something that would quell her own concerns. | |
329 WORDS NOTES I am SO sorry it took so long to get this started! If you have a better idea for the title, let me know, Broadway... It's kind of uncreative xD |
